TANGLED KNOTS
I recently had my hair in two strand twists with a bun in the back. I left it up for about a week. I pre pooed before I washed it with conditioner and oil and detangled with my fingers. I still had the worst knots and tangles I have ever had when I was washing my hair. I almost used a whole bottle of conditioner trying to get the knots out. I let the conditioner sit on my hair for like 30 mins. I used my big detangle comb too. My head was so sore afterwards. I had a big clump of hair with balls of hair in it afterward. Have any of you experienced this? What did u do to prevent this? How did u get the knots out?

Re: TANGLED KNOTS
when you have knots on the ends of the hair, the best thing to do is cut them out. By trying to comb thru and detangle them you're gonna cause breakage up the stand of hair. If they are further up the strand, I'm not sure how you'd handle that. If you're noticing a lot of shed and knots, it may be time for a trim but this is solely my opinion and two cents. I'd love to see what the other ladies have to say
Re: TANGLED KNOTS
I remove my knots with my fingers. Hold the hair between oily fingers and rub them, twist them, do whatever to them to get them out.
Your fingers can feel what the comb cant feel.
Now that you see this happened, I advise you to detangle your hair with fingers before you wet it. Wetting it probably made matters worse.
So after you loosen your twist, oil your hands, and finger comb being gentle on knots.
Then do your normal routine. When you put the conditioner in, finger comb/detangle BEFORE you put the comb in your hair.
Do all of this in sections.

Re: TANGLED KNOTS
Just be patient with it.
Another thing... If your hair was in twists for a week that means your normal amount of hair shedding for the day didnt occur.
Every day your hair sheds 100-125 hairs but if your hair is protected by a protective style like twists, its very hard for those hairs to drop off.
So lets do the math. 100x7 days equals 700 hairs!
So It may have seem liked a lot of hair came out, but in all actuality, it was supposed to.
Make sense?

Re: TANGLED KNOTS
I don't really get knots because I always keep my hair stretched out in rollers when I'm not out. Stretched out hair is less likely to get tangled. I also never have my hair loose and wet. When I started letting my loose hair dry in rollers, the frequency of knotting decreased dramatically.

I use a denman (spell check) brush from Sallys. I use to have the WORST knots and that thing saved my life. detangles my hair with no problem. I have a wide tooth comb but it hurts like hell! My Brush cost about $9

Re: TANGLED KNOTS
@ the blackbot-what exactly do you mean by stretched out by rollers? Just rolling up hair dry or wet?
@kitamargarita- I havent tried the denman brush yet. I didn't know if it was worth the hype. What kind is at Sally's?
