Hiiiii I'm new :)
Hello Ladies!
Well, this is my very first time trying to be natural. I did my first Big Chop (a term I got from here ) last year in November. I mean I chopped and shaved to where you could clearly see my scalp lol. Since then I've noticed that it has been darkening with growth and while I can pinch a good amount of hair, I can't twist it or anthing. I've also noticed dandruff and lots of it.
My sons didn't like it and my 3 yr old called me monkey mommy when he saw it!! This week, I've decided to not be ashamed any more and have since taken off my scarf. I would wear it all day while in the house and take it off for a breather when alone. My whole thing is, you don't like it? Too daggone bad! So, looking at all of you lovely ladies hair has inspired me and I'm hoping that you all could be my guides as to how to treat my hair like it's important and not reverting back to relaxers and wigs. I don't know what to do with my hair and I don't know how to nurse it while in this stage. I read here about the oils which I will get and start using..oh, and the biotin But what else should I do besides being patient? I shaved it off because I wanted to begin a healthy relationship with it...but now what? lol
Thanks!!

Re: Hiiiii I'm new :)
Welcome!! Wow, you are brave!! I transitioned for almost a year before I cut mine, and I still caught flack, especially from my mom. She's still complaining. Just yesterday I had to tell her that my hair is not up for discussion, lol. I chopped mine off on New Years Eve, so it's been about three weeks for me now. And boy, I've learned a lot about my hair in these three weeks though!! Just make sure you have fun with it!! And enjoy this time, because at least it's easy to work with now.

Hey Ms Tee!
Welcome to the board. So happy to have you here.
Love your natural hair intro. I think you have to rock it with some flyy earrings, maybe some makeup, and it with a lot of confidence. Cutting off all your hair isn't easy, but if you aren't confident. Those around you will see and feel that.
You need to wear your natural hair, not let your natural hair wear you.

Congratulations on the chemical detox! Isn't it refreshing? I did my BC last week and wish I had done it years ago!
I am new to being natural, but not to using quality natural ingredients. I suggest watching You Tube and joining organizations such as this one for encouragement and accountability for your natural journey.
I think the biggest thing to do after a BC is moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Make sure you are eating better, vitamins, and drinking plenty of water.
Since you BC'd, you should have a regimen something like this:
1. washing or cowashing, using sulfate free products
2. deep conditioning weekly
3. using a water-based leave-in conditioner
4. applying a moisturizing product like a glycerin mist or shea butter & glycerin whip to seal in moisture

you are so brave!! congrats on your new journey. try bagging at night. that is sleeping with a plastic cap to keep moisture in. i did it last night for the first time. when i came to work my coworker was like "your hair looks shiny". what bagging does is keep moisture in your hair while you are sleeping. when you wake up, your hair will be damp. but it will dry as the day continues. i have a challenge with moisture since i am allergic to so many oils.
