Dry Sets vs Wet Sets
Im a type 4 kinky and I find that when I'm putting my hair in twists/flat twists/braids my hair looks better when I set it dry vs setting it wet.
When I set my hair dry, it has an elongated fluffy soft texture to it when I take it down.
When i set my hair wet, it has a very defined curl but major shrinkage.
What works for you?

Wet sets for me because my hair looks ashy when I do a dry set. I actually like the shrinkage though when I do a wet set, and they usually last longer.

Dry dry dry dry dry. For ALL the same reasons. It makes my hair elongated, soft , and fluffy! U must have 4b hair NYC.

Re: Dry Sets vs Wet Sets
yeah my hair is already ashy dark brown, and I can't add too many products or my hair will be greasy/heavy. I'm a mix of different hair types (3c in the kitchen, a coarse dense patch of 4b smack dab in the center of my head, with the rest being 4a) so that's also the only way I can get my hair to work together.JenellyBean-KCCM wrote:Dry dry dry dry dry. Interesting!
That would be a good post to start different textures on the same head....

Re: Dry Sets vs Wet Sets
Gonna have to try a dry set. So far every style I try ends up with me pushing my hair back with a head band or into a poof:( like those on me but I love the versatility of the styles I have seen. I know it will come so for now I will rock what I got:)

I love that youre open to trying new things. That will get you far with natural hair.

For me I can style both ways. Well I dont know if you can call a pony tail a style.

Re: Dry Sets vs Wet Sets
For me it doesn't matter. If I do a dry set, I get a larger fluffier fro. If it is wet, it is more defined. I appreciate both looks.
Re: Dry Sets vs Wet Sets
I like dry sets. I can't do my twists as well with wet hair. It has to be at least 90% dry.

Re: Dry Sets vs Wet Sets
I am happily in the middle. I slightly dampen my hair. So it's not totally wet, or totally dry. Best for me so far...
Wet/Dry Twist
I agree for me wet gives me more curl definition and some frizz, Dry gives more length and a soft fluffy look. My avatar is wet twist out! Still working on my dry twist. Any Ideas on products or how to do it and maintain the twist out?

So far it depends on the product I am using. I mostly use kinky-curly custard which means I have to do it wet. But I get well defined texture.

If I dont retwist or rebraid my hair at night my hair gets so matted down that theres just no way to revive it. So I just retwist or rebraid at night to make my life easier. Doing this is better for my hair. When it gets all matted it feels rough and tough.

Re: Dry Sets vs Wet Sets
I am a strong 4b-c-z meaning I have kinks....love them.....I prefer to do dry twistouts or about 90% dry. I am with NYC matted down hair if it is not retwisted or rebraided or banded.....I get rough and tough with my afro puffs...
I use different shea butter mixtures sometimes with activator gels (but very lightly). It defines a curl pattern and makes them all look alike.
