Greetings from Cologne
Hey Ladies,
my name is Marlies I´m 21 live in Germany and I decided to go natural last year August.
I know none of you will ask me why,but I guess if I´d meet further black girls around here they´d ask me why.
Simple as that I was tired using all these products for my hair, growing my hair to a certain length and then watch it breaking off by itself and it was always the same happy as a bunny and then by and by it got shorter so that was really not satisfying me at all.
So last time I was in Ghana(my parents are Ghanaian)I decided to actually do what the hairdresser told me which is straighten it put in a weave for some months let it grow and afterwards straighten it again
The grwoing thing with the weave actually worked out pretty well and after the perm my hair was obviously really longer but then again I started one of my excessiv browsings and found care for your hair on facebook.
Had a look at all the hair of these beautiful ladies and then I read everything in there and I thought hmm ohhhh wooooow uhhhh it´s always their own hair not a weave or anything just theirs.
On top of that I had a chat with a böak girl from my year in college and she went natural too.She actually was 5 years till she straightened her hair in 2009 for our prom and she really regret it she told me and that she was going back to natural and I should try it as well.
so 31st August I´d say was the begining of my journey
I´m loving it since then.Have been watching many videos on youtube since then, absorbing things on care for your hair.Recently started watching kimmay tube, which is also really informativ, especially the Ph-balance thing.
I have to be honest I just discovered my natural hair some weeks ago when I dealed with my two textures for a while, before putting it back in my weave to let it grow.I saw curls in my back and coils in the front and I was soooo amazed
My only Problem is that big choice all the sisters in USA or UK have, when it comes to products. So I´m trying to make my way by exploring the different indian shops and afro shops over here.I found a good one in Düsseldorf actually, but since I moved over to cologne into my own flat(düsseldorf is 30mins away wiv the train but because of uni matters it has to be and I´m really enjoying it )I have to look for indian and afro shops over in cologne, cause I honestly don´t wanna come over to Düsseldorf anytime that I wanna purchase some products for my hair.
I might become a product junky.I bought a bunch of conditioners first whi8ch I wanna try now.I have a favorit already, which I used to use when my hair was in perm and it really softened my hair, but I haven´t used it on my newoly groth yet
so looking forward actually.
the funny thing it I never cared about my hair that much then now.If you compare it to permed hair it may take more time to take care off it,but I really do like it and I enjoyed doing the bantu -knots when it was time to sleep or style my hair for uni and that was again the point where I knew my decision was right from the unset
yea so that´s basicly me - not much knowledge about hair care and especially my own hair - afraid of the big chop that´s why I´m transitioning and my hairdresser said she´ll cut the ends off by and by
Sometimes I feel like doing it,maybe I will when it gets a certain length, somehow I can´t deal with people looking at me(I already dislike it when they do now and then with short hair?ohhh noooo ) so once I convince myself to chop it off,I´d have to do so with my boyfriend haha
oh yea I study media communication and journalism so writing is my passion yep yep it really is

Re: Greetings from Cologne
I already started and again I´ve never seen VO5,Giovanni or Aussie over here in Germany!
I could get them online but buying a bottel for like 3€ and then paying a shipment that´s over 8€ is somehow not that effectiv,so I´m consuming the product reviews and looking up products via net though I hope I may find some when I start looking for my afro shops and india shops in cologne.
The funny thing is that the india shops have more and better hair products than the ghanaians
I have to check out the styles though so I can see what I can try out next time my hair is out again.I´m gonna upload a pic pf my current weave the next days

Re: Greetings from Cologne
ahahahahahaha naaaaa of course not.
All black girls want to have long straight hair so they don´t care about their hair,or the hair is really short and they hide it in weaves.
so the products over there are slim to none -.-
which makes it hard for me to try some products I´ve been hearing very good things about since I started doing research in natural hair care.
I can just talk for Ghanaians in Germany they don´t believe in natural hair and the women in my mums age their hair looks bad some parts bold...looks funny when they take out the weave lol
well but in general you can definitely say you can´t purchase products in stores which are really good for black hair in normal grocery or supermarkets but I found a drug store (the one I bought the tea tree oil!) they have actually good products as if they knew I was gonns shop there for my hair in future
but I´m gonna try and buy products with enough moisture less cones and mainly for curls to help my hair become more healthy !

Re: Greetings from Cologne
oh well I don´t mind them I hope they´re gonna realize it later on and become jealous when they realize that I´ve grown my hair without straightening it to a certain length
There´s a girl from my former year in college she relaxed her hair in 2009 and now she´s gone natural again...I was playing with the thought and that eve I talked to her and she kinda convinced me to really do it but we´re not close friends so I don´t share my experience with her cause there´s no need to actually ^^
so it´s me against the straight girls
maybe in future I´ll meet some nice natural ladies that I can talk to and share my experience but as for now it´s just me,myself and I and my boyfriend who tells me that I´m addicted to hair sites haha

yeeeeaaaaa I really like it and it´s time that black people no matter in which country they currently live realize that they don´t have to hide or sacrifice their heritage, beauty and uniqueness to be respected or even recognized
